HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- A female teenager and her older brother were shot and killed by the teenager's ex-boyfriend after an argument in north Harris County on Sunday morning, investigators say.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office said that deputies responded to the shooting in the 200 block of W. Canino Road after receiving the call at about 10:50 a.m.

Investigators said that initial information indicates that the 17-year-old female was outside a home with a toddler when her 19-year-old ex-boyfriend, who was reportedly armed, arrived and a fight ensued.

Authorities said the 17-year-old's brother, who was 29 years old, exited the home and tried to de-escalate the situation. The brother then stepped in front of his sister to shield her from the ex-boyfriend before the ex-boyfriend shot both siblings and fled the scene, investigators said.

Deputies said when they arrived at the scene, they began life-saving measures until EMS personnel arrived. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene, officials said. The toddler was not harmed in the incident, authorities said.

HCSO said that its patrol units, along with Humble Police Department officers and police dogs, found the suspect in the 8800 block of Will Clayton Road and took him into custody.

HCSO officials said the investigation remains ongoing and possible charges are pending.
